About Matthew Kolodoski
Texas deserves judges who know the law, apply it faithfully, and treat every litigant with fairness and respect. Matthew Kolodoski has spent his career preparing to do exactly that.
A native Texan, Matthew grew up in Frisco, where he learned early the value of hard work, integrity, and personal responsibility. As a youth, he was active in Scouting and became an Eagle Scout at the age of 14. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston and earned his law degree from SMU Dedman School of Law. While serving as a student attorney in SMU’s Civil Law Clinic, Matthew achieved his first trial victory. After law school, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Irma C. Ramirez of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. That clerkship deepened his understanding of what courts owe the people who come before them: rigorous analysis, genuine impartiality, respect for the rule of law, and a disciplined commitment to the proper role of the judiciary.
Matthew is a seasoned trial and appellate attorney and a partner at a leading litigation boutique. He has represented clients through all phases of trial and appellate proceedings in state and federal courts throughout Texas. Known for his sound judgment and deep understanding of the law, Matthew is board certified in both Consumer and Commercial Law and Insurance Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a distinction held by few Texas attorneys.
Matthew’s commitment to service extends well beyond his law practice. He has served in numerous leadership roles within the State Bar of Texas, including on its Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Pattern Jury Charge Oversight Committee, Professionalism Committee, and Continuing Legal Education Committee. He has also served three terms as Chair of the Constitutional Law Section of the State Bar of Texas and remains active in the leadership of the Consumer and Commercial Law Section, the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society, and the Dallas Insurance Law American Inn of Court. Through that service, Matthew has worked to strengthen the legal profession, uphold the integrity of the courts, and foster respect for the rule of law.
In addition to his practice, Matthew is a frequent author and speaker who regularly shares his knowledge with attorneys across Texas through legal seminars and continuing legal education programs. His scholarship has been recognized with the Franklin Jones Best CLE Article Award from the Texas Bar College and TexasBarCLE’s Standing Ovation Award. He also received the State Bar of Texas’s Patrick Wiseman Award for Civil Rights in recognition of his contributions to civil rights and liberties in Texas. He is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, the Dallas Bar Foundation, and the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers Foundation.
Matthew is happily married with two children. He and his family are active members of their local church.
Judicial Philosophy
Whether you are rich or poor, an individual or a corporation, a plaintiff or a defendant, you are entitled to equal and impartial justice. A judge’s duty is to apply the law as written, to consider every argument with care, and to decide every case without favor, prejudice, or preconception. If given the privilege to serve on the Fifth Court of Appeals, I will be guided by the rule of law, respect for the limited role of the judiciary, and an unwavering commitment to treat every person who comes before the Court with fairness, dignity, and equal respect.
